the Royal Wedding day

I love the Brits when they are in celebrating mode! They will organize things in a simple and cheery way and will turn up wanting to have a good time. All other issues will stay at home.

Yesterday was one of these days. Prince William married his college sweethart which gave the nation an extra bank holiday and a reason to bring their flags out!

We watched the wedding at home with a nice pot of coffe and treats and then headed to the local park.

The flyer/invitation was placed on all local shops. All shop owners where chatting about it fullharted for a good few days leading up to the day!
the park was decorated
and on a closer look....
the kids had made it even more special!

The invitation asked for kids to be dressed in a Royal Fancy Dress and everyone to bring a dish for all to share along with picnic chairs and equipment. The sense of community was really strong and made it real special!

the tents where the locals could bring the dishes for a community lunch
screens where put up so everyone could watch the wedding
two bouncing castles were set and the kids went maaaaaaaad!
the real ales tent was much appreciated!
but I am more of a Pimms girl. Yummmyyyyyy
one of the things I missed when in Greece
there was a tent with a storyteller for kids (although I'd be sat there just as happy if they'd let me)
the lady at the cocktail tent made a special poster!
there was an endless tug of war game involving far too many and causing a lot of giggles!
kids were dominating the park
I became a little too acquainted with the Pimms ladies! they were great!
and ofcourse the local crafters had their own tents
local souvenirs so, that in years from now, you can say to your kids "you wore this on the day King William was married". And they will SO appreciate it (not! lol!)
I loved how kids dressed in fancy dress outfits were just playing happilly in the graveyard. A bit surreal.
the happy couple

So, we played and drunk and ate and saw some familiar faces and it was a lovely day! But the celebrations didn’t stop. Today is a day full of celebratory activities in the local stores and shops. The mood is great especially since this is a 4 day weekend! Our boy went royally mad on the bouncy castle and even at home when he decided to stand on a chair and wave out of the window to all passing by. I had my British earings on my mediterranean face, and it was great, that it didn’t feel weird. There were so many people from all backgrounds wearing the flag that made it special. As if we had all been embrassed by this country and there was space for us all.

So, here’s to the happy couple!

and as a friend said on twitter “Congrats to Kate and William! Good luck from now on..!”

Πρέπει να γράψω και γι αυτό…so many things so little time…

  1. AX!

  2. Ah, I wish I could have been in England that day. I went to a street party at the age of 4 when Charles and Di go married. We watched it here in Cyprus but it wasn’t the same!

    1. OH! you need to make sure you are around for the queen’s diamond jubille then! I hear it will be even bigger! I know what you mean by “it’s not the same”… Being Greek and hubbie being British, and having spent time in both countries, I could go on forever about it!
